Morgan Meyer was first elected in 2014 as State Representative for Texas House District 108, representing downtown, uptown, near east, and north Dallas, as well as the Town of Highland Park, and the City of University Park.
During his first session as State Representative in 2015, Rep. Meyer was appointed to serve on the House Energy and Insurance committees and worked with Texas Governor Greg Abbott to author and advocate for the passage of legislation requiring all public school campuses to be given an A-F rating. He also advocated legislation that would increase the oversight and performance reviews of government agencies, severely reduce the ability of the legislature to increase taxes, enhance the security of school campuses during elections, and penalize public officials who use their position of authority for personal profit.
Rep. Meyer has been recognized by numerous organizations for his demonstrated commitment to conservative leadership, cutting waste, and promoting a higher ethical standard. As a freshman legislator, Rep. Meyer was named one of the Top 10 Powerful Freshmen by Capitol Insider, a Conservative Champion by the Texas Conservative Coalition, Champion for Free Enterprise by the Texas Association of Business, Legislative Hero by the Texas Access to Justice Foundation, and Friend of the Taxpayer by American for Prosperity, among other awards.
Rep. Meyer has lived in House District 108 for over 20 years. Prior to his election, Rep. Meyer was involved in his local community, serving as a precinct chair when he lived in the M Streets, attending the State Republican Convention as a delegate, and as a member and past officer of the Greater Dallas Pachyderm Club. He has also been active in the greater-Dallas community, volunteering his professional training as an attorney to provide legal services to those who could not otherwise afford them. Through the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, Rep. Meyer has volunteered at the South Dallas Legal Clinic, the Housing Legal Clinic, and the VA Hospital Clinic. Rep. Meyer is also involved in the Lawyers Serving Warriors Program, which provides free representation to injured veterans to help them secure benefits based upon combat related injuries.
Rep. Meyer was born in Lubbock, Texas, and was raised to value education and hard work. He and his wife Keana live in University Park with their three children, Katharine, Elizabeth, and Asher. His family attends Highland Park United Methodist Church where he and Keana teach Sunday school. Rep. Meyer received his undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University, graduating Cum Laude, and received his law degree from Washington and Lee School of Law. Rep. Meyer grew his interest in politics by interning for U.S. Congressman Larry Combest from Lubbock, and later as a clerk for Republican Judge John Marshall. Rep. Meyer is a partner at Bracewell Law Firm and has been named a “Rising Star” by Texas Super Lawyers eight times.
