Enough is Enough

For the second time in two weeks, the Valdez campaign for Sheriff has accused unidentified Republicans of conducting a campaign targeting her as a lesbian.

First, Kirk McPike, Valdez's campaign manager told the Dallas Voice that Republicans were running a "low campaign."  Click the article here.

Second, Valdez accused a certain percentage of Dallas County residents of attacking her because she is a lesbian.  In the same interview, Valdez touted her support from the national Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgendered's (GLBT) Victory Fund, a national political action committee that has donated over $50,000.00 to Valdez's campaign.  Click for the interview here.

Yes, Valdez is a lesbian.  Yes, she has drawn tremendous financial support from national GLBT groups.  These are facts.  But, here are the facts that Dallas voters care more about:

  • The County Jail has failed every inspection under Valdez's administration.
  • Overtime for the County Jail has ballooned to over $10 million per year.
  • The Sheriff's own employee assocations have endorsed Republican candidate Lowell Cannaday

Over the next 30 days, we hope that Valdez will address these facts and not divert the public's attention by creating a pretend dust-up.
