Liberty Enlightening the World

An icon of freedom and of the United States, the statue is of a colossal robed female figure representing Liberty, derived from Libertas. A broken chain lies at her feet. She is bearing a torch in her upraised right hand and, in her left arm, a "tabula ansata" (a tablet evoking the law) inscribed with the date of the American Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776.

Perhaps the most important document in Texas, certainly the most revered, is the letter written by Lt. Col. William Barret Travis during the siege of the Alamo. On February 24, 1836, the second day of the siege, Travis wrote this appeal for reinforcements through this heroic message.

We Have a New Website

We are building a new comprehensive website for the DCRP. This site was created using a powerful content management system (CMS) which manages not just the front-end presentation but also all the back-end functionality and workflow for the site. Since it is entirely standards-based, the site's theme can be "skinned" with any front-end design that is desired and retains all of its inherent backend functionality.
