Legislative Priorities

Greetings, everyone! I pray y’all enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving and weekend. What I love the most is the final weekend of regular season college football, and there were some big-time upsets. Being with family and friends during this time is unbeatable, and it is what creates great memories. This was our little Levi Allen’s first Thanksgiving at home, as last year he was still in the hospital NICU getting stronger. Now he is a bustling fella at 23 lbs who, along with his cousin Jaxton Bernard, lit up Thanksgiving night when we turned on the outside Christmas lights. I am sure there are many similar memorable moments for many of you.

Christmas is coming soon, and it seems so long ago, but by the end of this week, it will just be one month since the 2024 election cycle. Here in Dallas County, we gathered much information about the execution, or failure, of the election systems. Many are certainly asking, what next? The answer is simple, we have anecdotal evidence of failed systems, lack of processes and procedures, and questionable decisions and actions. Now we must take what we have uncovered and push for electoral reforms, not the empty rhetoric of election integrity. We have seen a lack of adherence to Texas Election Law, and the allowing of such by our own Texas Secretary of State office, namely the Elections Division. We should push to eradicate the registering of homeless individuals to vote, they do not have a permanent residence. We should no longer accept reasonable impediment declarations.

These are some preeminent issues that must be addressed in the coming Texas 89th Legislative session. We can ill afford to have 254 separate electoral fiefdoms in Texas, executing elections as they deem appropriate. And this is truly an issue in our large urban population centers that are under the control of the progressive socialist left.

This is why I am looking at establishing a legislative priorities/issues committee just for the legislative session. It is imperative that we have a voice in our legislature and ensure our elected representatives honor the expectations of the Republican electorate. This would be a dedicated group who would be tracking bills and legislative actions as well as consistently meeting with our Dallas County GOP elected officials. Election reform in Texas, along with the Republican Party of Texas legislative priorities, are key for this coming session. As well, sometime this week, or next, the Republican caucus will hold votes for House Speaker. We will be keeping an eye on this as we do not want to see the continuing practice of a handful of Republicans joining with Democrats to select the Texas Speaker of the House.

Lastly, now is not the time to rest upon our laurels. The May municipal elections will be here before we know it. Too often municipal elections see a turnout rate of 6-8 percent, that is abysmal. We must build upon the energy and momentum that we have and focus on key municipal elections, recruit, train, and support our candidates, and push them over the line. Gone are the days of waiting until a week out from the filing deadline and asking if anyone wants to run. We will be proactive and stay on offense. This is why we have the Fight Local committee to coordinate our efforts across Dallas County.

Yes, we all need to make sure we take care of our Christmas list . . . December has not only Christmas but it is also the month of my wife Angela’s birthday and our anniversary. Yep, I will be washing cars in the DCRP parking lot to raise funds, and may have to compete with the homeless folks.

Lastly, I look forward to seeing some of you this Thursday at the Royal Oaks CC for our DCRP Christmas event featuring Trump Border Czar, the Honorable Tom Homan.

Steadfast and Loyal.
