“Threats to Democracy in Texas”
| “Leftist Gun Control” |
| Let me begin by affirming that America is a Constitutional Republic. Article IV, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution confirms that fact. Our Republic has a representative democracy as the means by which the voices of the people are heard. We do not have a direct democracy. So, when I hear folks, mostly leftists, say that America is a democracy, they are misspoken. As well, it is always the leftists in America denigrating everyone else as a “threat to democracy,” something we hear quite often. What they are actually articulating is that anyone who disagrees with their ideological agenda and philosophy of governance is a threat to them, not democracy. Matter of fact, when one considers the real threat to our representative democracy, it is the Marxist left. Consider, who is it that desires to have illegal immigrants voting? Spare us the rhetoric about that not being true. The recently revealed illegal immigrant superintendent of schools in Des Moines, Iowa, was also registered to vote in Maryland. Not only that, remember the lawsuits filed by leftist groups advocating for illegal immigrants to be counted in the U.S. Census? The U.S. Census, mandated by the Constitution every ten years, is necessary for the apportionment of representation in our country. Why would leftists desire to have those here illegally counted for elected representation, which is supposed to be for citizens? Yes, that is a rhetorical question, but it is clearly a threat to our democracy. How telling it was when the left was in an apoplectic rage over Texas redistricting, when they have been undermining representative democracy in their states for years, decades. Texas Democratic State Senators fled to Massachusetts to protest the redistricting efforts in the Lone Star State. Massachusetts has zero Republican congressional representation in the state where the American Revolution began. However, it is the state of one Elbridge Gerry, one of the original representatives of Massachusetts to the Continental Congress… and from whom comes the term “Gerrymandering.” But Texas faces more threats to its representative democracy from within, and it will be very telling how elected Republicans stand on these issues. First, the Republican Party of Texas has filed a lawsuit to close the primary elections in the state. This comes in response to such instances as the GOP runoff race in Orange County, where challenger David Covey was locked into a heated race with then Speaker of the Texas House, Dade Phelan. In a GOP runoff, thousands of Democrats voted for Phelan, who won the runoff contest by some 400 votes. We also have the recent example of Nathalie Harpin, Vice President of the Spring Branch Democrats Club, who has gained national fame. Ms. Harpin decided to doxx students from Stratford High School who were seeking to establish a Turning Point USA chapter on their campus. Not only that, Ms. Harpin led a campaign targeting and threatening teachers who would serve as advisors to the chapter. Clearly, Ms. Harpin has proven herself to be a leftist; however, a review of her voting record shows that she voted in the March 2024 GOP primary. It is a violation of the freedom of association for any political party to have members of another party adversely affecting their electoral selection process for representation. And no, I do not and have never condoned Republicans involving themselves in Democratic primary elections. Let them choose whom they will, such as Zohran Mamdani. Some say that closed political primaries are not fair to declared Independents. My response is simple: if one chooses not to attend someone’s BBQ, you do not get to decide what is on their menu. There’s another example of threats to democracy in Texas that is very close to home here in Dallas County. Recently, the Dallas County Republican Party (DCRP) executive committee, the representatives of Republicans from the various voting precincts, overwhelmingly decided to conduct the March 2026 election day primary at the precinct level, separate from Democrats and utilizing hand-count, hand-marked paper ballots. It has obviously become a news story, and I explained the decision in a Monday message a few weeks back. However, last week, the Dallas County Commissioners Court went into executive session, meaning behind closed doors, to discuss the “legal” aspects of the DCRP Executive Committee decision. It is imperative that everyone from outside Dallas County understands that there is not one single Republican on the Dallas County Commission, 5-0. The last Republican serving in that position was redistricted out and subsequently defeated. I would find it utterly unconscionable if five Democrat county commissioners took it upon themselves to undermine the decision of an elected body, the Dallas County Republican Party executive committee. The DCRP is acting fully within the Texas Election Code and now must contract with the Dallas County Elections Department (DCED), which just had a new Elections Administrator, Paul Adams, sworn in. So, any presumption that DCRP would be told no by the Dallas County Commissioners would be a true threat to our democracy and would be the pure definition of totalitarianism and tyranny. The State of Texas should not be facing any of these challenges. I must ask, what is the opinion of the elected Republican officials—Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, members of the Texas U.S. Congressional delegation, and Texas State Legislature—on the issue of closed Republican primaries, precinct-based voting, hand-count, hand-marked paper ballots? These are not complicated issues, and truly, once upon a time, we voted in our respective precincts and used hand-count paper ballots. The failures of computer-based election systems are well known and documented. The number of disenfranchised voters continues to grow, along with the loss of confidence in current electoral processes and procedures. Texas, and no other state, should have any impediments to legal, lawful alternative executions for the conduct of elections. Anyone or any entity seeking to be an obstacle to such is, and are, a threat to our representative democracy. Steadfast and Loyal. |
