“I Don’t Believe Them” |
I first met Charlie Kirk back in 2013, when he asked me to serve on the Turning Point USA advisory board. He was just getting started then—an impressive young man with a focused vision. Over the years, I shared time with him at various venues: being interviewed on his show, speaking alongside him on a conservative cruise, and watching him grow from a bold young activist into an insightful, principled Christian man, husband, and father. Charlie took his message directly to the next generation—meeting them where they were: on social media, on college campuses, and in the open forum of public debate. He was fearless in doing what America desperately needs—engaging in open discourse. Tragically, Charlie Kirk was responding to a question on leftist violence and mass shootings when he, himself, became the victim of such violence. He was gunned down—shot once in the throat—while exercising his right to free speech. We’ve all seen the double standard. Leftists burn neighborhoods, destroy property, attack police precincts, and unleash violence over the death of a career criminal and drug addict. Conservatives hold peaceful prayer vigils. Yet the narrative persists that “political violence” comes mainly from the right. Even worse, some argue disagreement with leftist ideology is “hate speech,” and therefore, people like Charlie Kirk “get what they deserve.” Illinois Governor Pritzker blames Donald Trump. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar blames Charlie Kirk himself. I’ve been sent screenshots of appalling comments—from Marine Corps officers, Secret Service agents, university administrators, and teachers. It reveals how deeply the Marxist-leftist rot has spread. And when I hear calls to “tone down the rhetoric,” forgive me if I don’t believe them. The evidence says otherwise: – Sen. Chuck Schumer threatens members of the U.S. Supreme Court—no change. – A deranged leftist shoots up the GOP Congressional baseball practice—nothing changes. – Donald Trump survives two assassination attempts—nothing changes. – Antifa assaults conservatives in the streets—nothing happens. The left uses words as weapons because they cannot defend their ideology. When debate fails, they turn to denigration, intimidation, and, too often, violence. No speech justifies assassination. The fact that Charlie Kirk was gunned down seconds after discussing leftist violence is unconscionable. So what would make me believe them? – When they dismantle their 21st-century Brown Shirts—Antifa. One of the shooter’s rounds was engraved with Antifa’s own anthem. The irony is staggering: a group calling itself “anti-fascist” engaging in fascist violence. – When Democrats renounce their unholy alliances with Islamo-fascists. – When they admit the truth about Black Lives Matter and its Marxist foundation. – When their media outlets speak truth, not propaganda. – When conservatives can deliver remarks on college campuses without needing private security. Even Bernie Sanders was welcomed to speak at Liberty University without protest. Meanwhile, conservative speakers face mobs, bans, and threats. Conservatives don’t burn cities, tear down statues, call parents “domestic terrorists,” or assault law enforcement. We don’t need tantrums to advance our principles. Our ideals stand on the firm foundation of America’s Judeo-Christian heritage and Constitutional Republic. We welcome debate because truth has nothing to fear. But the left? They will return—again and again—to calling us Nazis, fascists, “threats to democracy,” or even “Black white supremacists.” That’s what they do. One of the shooter’s .30-06 rounds was engraved: “Hey Fascist, catch.” In truth, the shooter and his leftist comrades should have aimed that round at themselves—because they are the real fascists. Until they admit it, I will not believe them. And neither should you. Steadfast and Loyal.- |
