Real Electoral Reform

Good Monday morning, everyone! I truly enjoy having the opportunity to share thoughts, perspectives and insights with you to start your week. You know, this thing called politics is indeed a blood sport, and that is because it has become the playground of the incompetent. This is why we must not only recognize that aspect, but never fail to maintain that desire to make it a thinking person’s endeavor.

There are many who are celebrating the announcement of the move of the Chicago branch of the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) to Dallas. Yes, I am one who embraces our free market economic philosophy and needless to say, Texas is a far more welcoming place for such, in comparison to blue states like Illinois, California, and New York. However, there is also a risk that comes with the relocation of these economic giants in the corporate world. How will these new Texas residents, employees of these corporations and businesses vote? It is imperative that these newcomers to Texas by way of corporate and business relocation, such as Chevron departing California, understand why the departure was being made.

In Texas it has become rather apparent that growth is centrally located in what is called the I-35 corridor which begins in Denton and runs clear down to San Antonio. We also see the same occurring now in the I-45 corridor from Huntsville to Galveston along with the I-10 Houston to Sealy corridor. There is certainly concentrated economic and urban growth in the Lone Star State. As well, this is where you see the concentrations of leftism in Texas. We recently shared with you the policy assertion by the interim Dallas police chief that they would not be cooperating with ICE. We are well aware of the issues facing Harris County (Houston) which is led by a rather delusional leftist named Lina Hidalgo, who once had to take a leave of absence for mental health issues. And ICE estimates that there are over 400K illegal immigrants residing in the Houston area.  Austin, the capital of Texas, well, it has gone beyond the weird moniker to being what some refer to as “Moscow on the Colorado River.” It is quite different from when I would take my family down there while we were stationed at Ft. Hood.

Regardless, in the 2024 election we witnessed Donald Trump resoundingly win Texas by some 15 percent. Ted Cruz won his supposedly close Senate race by almost 10 percent. And 12/14 border counties in Texas went red.

However, in this election cycle, it is imperative that we do not rest upon these laurels. We must solidify Texas as a strong conservative state and enact legislation that advances electoral systems reform. As I previously shared, the Texas Secretary of State office issued a decision terminating the ES&S ePollbooks, a welcomed decision. However, we must not just paint in “pretty pastels” as Ronald Reagan so aptly described, now is the time for bold colors.

First, Texas must move towards having closed primary elections, and it is obvious why this is necessary. Consider the most recent Republican primary election runoff for a Texas House district between Dade Phelan and David Covey. Covey barely lost the runoff race due to thousands of Democrats voting in a Republican primary runoff. Democrats, especially after the massive defeat of 2024, should not have any ability to influence Republican electoral contests.

Following along with the ES&S decision, it is time for Texas to move towards statewide precinct-level voting, abolishing the countywide system which is fraught with issues. As well, just as Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin did, let’s go to hand-counted paper ballots and stop the charade of believing that computer based election systems cannot be infiltrated. I tend to believe that if it was good enough for my parents, well, it is still valid.

With the concern about illegal immigrants here in Texas — ICE estimates there are some 2.1 million — we need mandated voter registration roll reviews. There must be an end to the insidious policy of Reasonable Impediment Declarations which allow an individual with no photo ID to use questionable documents, such as utility bills, in order to attain a voting ballot, and without question once they request a ballot under this policy. How can we register homeless individuals to vote, when they do not have a residence? I am sorry, but multiple individuals putting down a shelter, church, or street corner as a valid residence does not pass the smell test. My question remains: who comes to pick up those voter registration cards?

Lastly, the office of Election Supervisor must be an elected position, no longer one appointed by a County Commission. It was back in 2020 when Chris Hollins, an officer of the Texas Democratic Party, was appointed by leftist County Judge Lina Hidalgo as Election Supervisor. Mr Hollins attempted to implement 24 hour voting, sought to mail out millions of unsolicited ballots, and curbside voting, but only in certain areas. I think we all know that we have a situation with the Dallas County Election Supervisor Heider Garcia, who was hired after being fired from Tarrant County.

I remember when Florida Governor Ron DeSantis came into office. He immediately fired two very corrupt election supervisors with whom I had personal dealings — Brenda Snipes in Broward County and Susan Bucher in Palm Beach County. He should have also fired Gertrude Walker (Dirty Gerdie) of St. Lucie County. Those were three of the problem Blue voting areas in South Florida, that is what I mean by painting in bold colors: Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat (Fortune Favors the Bold).

It is not necessary that we seek to accommodate and share power with progressive socialists in the Lone Star State. This legislative session, we should have our Texas State legislature, held by a Republican majority, strengthen our electoral system against leftist incursion. If not now, when? If a Texas State legislature held in majority by Republicans does not seek to do so, well, the ensuing question has to be, why?

Steadfast and Loyal.
