A Special Kind of Stupid

Greetings, everyone! Well, we now know the final college football rankings and the all-important 12-team college football bracket. Congratulations to my alma mater, the Tennessee Volunteers who finished #7 in the polls and #9 in the CFP rankings and will play Ohio State in the first round. I am already getting absurd stupid statements from friends up north telling me that it is going to be cold. Uh, folks, it gets cold in the Smoky Mountains. As a matter of fact, I was back there for Salute to Service weekend, and my morning run was at 32 degrees, without wind chill. So I do not think weather will be a massive factor unless there is a torrential snowstorm, but that would affect both teams.

As well, I can remember that almost 4 years ago, a horrific winter storm hit us here in Texas. So, it is rather stupid to believe that cold weather is restricted to Ohio, Pennsylvania, or Indiana where three of the CFP first-round games will be played.

Speaking of stupid, I have always said that there are three levels. The first is your basic stupid: maybe your team this past Saturday in the conference championship game called some stupid plays. I have yet to comprehend when it is 3rd and 1, why anyone would put their offense in the shotgun formation?

Then there is stuck on stupid: this was something that Army Drill Sergeants loved to call us cadets at our 7-week Boot Camp when I went through. Can’t do that now I suppose, which is stupid.

Then there is the highest level, which I call a special kind of stupid.

This past Saturday while most of us were watching the college football conference championships, there was a special kind of stupid taking place in Austin, Texas.

Last Saturday, the Texas House Republican Caucus met for their internal vote for House Speaker. See, the Texas State House has an 88-seat Republican majority, there are 150 seats in the Texas State House. Trivia fact, that number never changes because it is based upon the number of Psalms in the Bible, 150. Likewise, there are 31 seats in the Texas State Senate, relating to the 31 Proverbs. That number also never changes.

But I digress.

Republicans going into the 89th legislative session hold an 88-62 majority over the Democrats in the Texas State House. So, it should be easy to operate by the caucus rules and select someone to be Speaker from within the Republican caucus and all Texas House Republicans vote for that person in January before the full House, right?

Nope, there is a contingent of Texas State House Republicans who are indeed a special kind of stupid. These are ones who would rather align with the Democrats and share power to give them certain House Committee Chairman positions, including Speaker Pro Tem, the second in charge.

As they proceeded through the voting process, there were some 26 House Republicans who decided to walk out. Then a useful idiot — a term coined by Vladimir Lenin — named Dustin Burrows decided to announce that he had enough votes from “special kind of stupid” Republicans and deranged/delusional Democrats to make him House Speaker in January.

Now, you are truly a special kind of stupid to have not gotten the message from the Texas Republican primary from earlier this year in March. A record number of House Republicans who supported this type of absurdity dating back to previous useful idiots like Joe Straus, Dennis Bonnen, and Dade Phelan were defeated, some say the reading of the leaves, and resigned. Now, we have this remnant, which includes Dallas County State Representatives Morgan Meyer and Angie Chen Button embracing the arrogance of officialdom and offering the middle finger to the Republican electorate.

I must ask, what is sooooo enticing about joining with Democrats in the Texas State House? Do any of these useful idiots who are clearly a special kind of stupid believe that these Democrats would offer them the same? I mean if the Democrats held an 88-62 majority in the Texas State House would they give any thought to sharing power with Republicans? Heck no, of course that would be a national news story and they would do what Democrats do, rule by legislative tyranny. If you do not believe me, ask a Republican legislator in the California State Assembly what life is like.

If there are two things I utterly despise, it is liars and traitors. Liars and traitors should not be rewarded with electoral patronage, and those 26 who walked out this past Saturday signed their political death warrant.

As the Chairman of the Dallas County Republican Party, I officially condemn State Representatives Morgan Meyer and Angie Chen Button, both supported by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, for their actions in the betrayal of Republican voters. I would be interested to see if Governor Abbott does the same, or perhaps he also condones the practice of sucking up to these radical progressive socialists, Marxists. If the Dallas County Republican Party Executive Committee advances a resolution to censure Reps. Meyer and Button, it will have my support.

The other thing I despise is the arrogance of officialdom. My message to these two State Representatives is simple, you reap what you sow. Perhaps they feel as if they can act with impunity fearing there will be no consequences or ramifications, that’s not the case this time. No amount of establishment monetary support will enable you to run away and hide from your self-determined judgment day. Republican voters in Dallas County do not need elected officials who are a special kind of stupid.

Steadfast and Loyal.
